Dr. Jared Nelson
If you had asked Dr. Jared Nelson as a young man what he was going to be when he grew up, you would have been surprised to find that chiropractic wasn't even on his radar. For him, discovering the chiropractic profession has been quite a journey.
Dr. Nelson was 3rd among the 4 boys that grew up in a normal, happy home. His father and mother made sure that their boys knew the meaning of hard work.
"I spent a lot of time hauling hay, taking care of horses and shoveling dirt. Work was the principle my dad wanted to instill in us more than anything else." Dr. Nelson learned that there is no such thing as hard work, just work. "If it isn't difficult, then it isn't work."
One day while working on his cousin's ranch, Dr. Nelson fell beneath a 300 pound cattle gate and broke his pelvis in 3 places. The doctors said he would need surgery to fix it, but Dr. Nelson decided to not to go through with it. "I had a good job and I didn't want to lose it and I was nervous being down for a long period of time." He returned to work 3 days later.
Fast forward 10 years. As you can imagine, Dr. Nelson struggled with pain and dysfunction most of his life. He had been to multiple doctors, but was discouraged to find that the recommendations he received always seemed to be geared toward medication and masking the symptoms. "I had basically accepted the fact that I would be in pain the rest of my life." One day a friend (Brian) who was studying at Parker University invited Dr. Nelson to see him at the school clinic. "Brian needed the credits to graduate, so I figured I'd help him out."
"It was incredible! After seeing Brian at the school clinic for 2 months, I was pain free and have been ever since. I knew then that I had found something special and that it was time for a career change."
Dr. Nelson applied to Parker University shortly after and began learning about the power of preventative healthcare.
"I have come to realize that 'good health' should not be defined as an absence of disease, but rather by the way you live your life and the choices that you make every day."
